Our picturesque ride on a serpentine mountain road will take us to Novara di Sicilia, a charming medieval town honored as a Borgo dei Borghi d’Italia (Most Beautiful Village in Italy) but often missed by tourists. Since ancient times, agriculture has helped this small hilltop town endure and prosper under many different rulers. We will arrive in the Piazza Duomo, the town’s historic centre, and visit the 16th Century cathedral (if open). Then as we wander the narrow cobbled streets, we will pass several more beautiful churches. On the cliffside, we will see many small houses, the ruins of the Castle Saraceno, and the magnificent views of the valley with the Tyrrhenian Sea on the horizon.
After lunch, we will visit the anthropological museum to see the artifacts of the local culture over the centuries. Our return ride in the afternoon will be as scenic as the morning one!
